Defenders Hails Wildlife Protections in Trans Pacific Partnership Agreement
WASHINGTON — As part of today’s historic announcement that the negotiations for the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPP) have concluded, the Obama administration announced the inclusions of provisions designed to help combat wildlife trafficking and conserve marine species.
Jamie Rappaport Clark, Former president and CEO of Defenders of Wildlife, issued the following statement:
“Today’s important agreement is all the more historic because we are seeing the issue of wildlife trafficking discussed alongside environmental issues such as pollution and environmental subsidies on an international scale. The text still needs to be made public, but the Obama administration and its negotiating partners deserve enormous credit for elevating these vital issues as part of the TPP talks. Today’s announcement is an important step toward global cooperation to protect many imperiled species of wildlife.”
