The Accounting Clerk will serve as support for all Finance areas, with a focus on general ledger journal entries, monthly budget report distribution, and financial compliance assistance.


General Ledger

  • Prepares journal entries as necessary under the direction of the Senior Director, Finance and Financial Analyst 

  • Prepares and distributes monthly Budget-to-Actual reports to staff

  • Runs reports in the general ledger in order to respond to staff inquiries, as necessary

  • Performs balance sheet and other account reconciliations, as assigned, and investigates any discrepancies

  • Makes appropriate updates to the chart of sub-accounts and reporting trees for new accounts, including those for grants and contracts

Revenue Accounting

  • Supports the Senior Director, Finance and Financial Analyst in the processing of monthly cash receipts including reconciliation and journal entries

  • Prepares bank deposit slips and makes bank runs

  • Performs other revenue-related entries as assigned

Financial Compliance
  • Assists with preparation of audit and Form 990 schedules and selections, as necessary

  • Assists Financial Analyst with the annual state registration process

  • Assists Financial Analyst with the quarterly lobbying report

  • Maintains the Financial Compliance Calendar in order to ensure critical deadlines are met

  • Assists in the preparation of periodic standard forms related to Federal grants and contracts, such as SF 424, SF 425, and SF 270

  • Maintains Finance department files at Headquarters and offsite storage location in accordance with established record retention policy

  • Performs all other related duties, as assigned


  • Education:  Bachelor’s (B.A./B.S.) degree or equivalent in Accounting or related discipline

  • Experience:  2+ years of finance or accounting experience with general ledger exposure, journal entry preparation, and account analysis.

  • Other:

  • Proficiency with financial general ledger accounting system. Microsoft Dynamics (formerly Solomon) experience would be a plus.

  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Well-organized with the ability to work independently under minimal supervision while meeting tight deadlines.


  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use a computer and communicate with others while doing so.


  • General office working conditions, the noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
