Idaho wildlife biologists received valuable assistance in April 2007 when volunteers took to the field to “hunt” for squirrels -- endangered Southern Idaho Ground Squirrels, current candidates for listing under the Endangered Species Act.
The Wildlife Volunteer Corps joined forces with volunteers from the Public Lands Foundation to count the number of squirrels they saw in specific areas throughout the day, data that will allow the biologists to gauge the success of rehabilitation efforts following a wildfire in 2006.
