Public hearing on horseshoe crab harvest in Virginia
July 9, 2008
6:30pm
Virginia Marine Resources Commission
2600 Washington Ave, 4th Flr
Newport News, VA
The Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission (ASMFC) will take public comment on their draft addendum outlining options for the horseshoe crab harvest. Horseshoe crabs provide a vital food resource for red knots and other migratory shorebirds. Red knots have declined dramatically over the past decade due to the overfishing of horseshoe crabs.
Please attend this hearing and speak in support of the strongest restrictions on horseshoe crab fishing.
If you can attend, please contact Caroline Kennedy at caroline.kennedy@defenders.org for more information.
