Top Campaigns

Defenders of Wildlife works to protect and restore America’s native wildlife, safeguard habitat, resolve conflicts, work across international borders and educate and mobilize the public. Here are a number of our top initiatives.

Endangered Species Act
For more than 30 years, the Endangered Species Act has helped prevent the extinction of our nation's wildlife treasures.
Global Warming and Wildlife
Defenders of Wildlife strongly supports the passage of national legislation that takes immediate steps to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions to address the root cause of climate change. At the same time, Defenders is advancing legislation to help reduce the impacts global warming will have - and in many cases is already having - on wildlife and habitat.
Aerial Gunning
More than 35 years ago, Congress banned the use of airplanes to hunt or harass wolves and other wildlife by passing the Aerial Hunting Act in 1971. But Alaska is exploiting a loophole in the federal law to resume the practice. Other states could soon follow suit. The PAW Act is crucial legislation that will close the loophole in the current law.

Habitat and Highways
Nearly 4 million miles of roads and 200 million vehicles keep Americans moving. But our mobility comes with a price. Road kill has pushed some rare species, such as the panther and grizzly bear, closer to extinction.
