Java Forest Shade-Grown Coffee
$2.25 from every package of Java Forest coffee is donated
to Defenders' crossborder programs with Mexico. Defenders is working to save
jaguars, ocelots, parrots and the Mexican wolf --your support helps wildlife!Drinking shade-grown coffee is an easy and delicious way to help threatened wildlife. As their natural forest habitat continues to decline, migratory birds and other wildlife are increasingly finding refuge in the forest-like canopies of shade coffee farms.
By following time-honored growing traditions, shade-grown coffee farmers are protecting vital habitat for hundreds of species of birds, bats, small cats, and other wildlife.
To help raise awareness of these benefits, and increase support for sustainable farming practices, Defenders of Wildlife has teamed up with the Thanksgiving Coffee Company to create the Java Forest line of Certified Organic, shade grown, and Fair Trade Certified coffees.
Java Forest Coffee is shade grown at an altitude of 4,200 feet in Northern Nicaragua by the SOPPEXCCA Cooperative. It was rated as one of the top five coffees in Nicaragua at the 2004 Cup of Excellence competition held in Nicaragua.
