Sierra B. Weaver, Senior Staff AttorneyAreas of Expertise: Climate change, forests and public lands, marine conservation

Sierra is a staff attorney with Defenders of Wildlife in Washington, D.C. Her work involves conducting and overseeing litigation aimed at protecting endangered species and their habitats, with an emphasis on the current and impending impacts of climate change. She provides legal support for Defenders’ work on forests and public lands, as well as on marine conservation issues. Before joining Defenders in 2007, Sierra worked as an attorney with the Ocean Conservancy in Washington, D.C, where she focused on protecting marine wildlife from harmful human interactions. Prior to that, she litigated issues ranging from air quality and transportation planning in Atlanta to wetlands destruction in coastal North Carolina as an attorney with the Southern Environmental Law Center in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Sierra earned her B.A. in philosophy, politics, and economics, cum laude, from Pomona College in Claremont, California. She earned her J.D. from Harvard Law School, where she served as managing editor of the Harvard Environmental Law Review and was a 2001 recipient of the law school’s Kaufman and Skirnick public interest fellowships.
