Biographies
Lane Adamson grew up on a
cattle ranch along the Rocky Mountain Front near Augusta, Montana.
He attended and graduated from Montana State University with a
degree in Agriculture Production but also took classes at UTEP,
SUSU and BYU. He focused his graduate studies in agriculture
education. Much of his professional activity has been in ranch
management in Montana. He also worked as a purchasing agent and
store manager for a concrete construction supply business in Idaho.
Four years in real estate convinced him that there was a need for
people to consider the impact of growth on the communities and
ecosystems of Montana. The past six years he has served as project
director for The Madison Valley Ranchlands Group, a non-profit, grassroots ranching organization that encourages collaborative
stewardship of the Madison Valley. He serves on the Madison
County Planning Board and the Ennis Chamber of Commerce. Lane
and his wife Charlotte have nine children. He served in Vietnam with
the 9th Infantry Division. Rodeo, hunting, hiking and family activities
have always been of great importance in his life, not necessarily in
that order. Lane is a founding member of the council and has spoken at
Defenders' conferences including the North American Wolf
Conference and the Carnivores Conference.
Jael Kampfe is a fourth generation Montanan and the first female
in her family to serve as General Manager of the 107 year old ranch,
the Lazy EL. Located in Roscoe, Montana, the ranch is a
yearling angus operation with a recreational hunting, fishing, and
guest business. For the last two years, the Lazy El has participated in a range rider project co-sponsored by Defenders of Wildlife.
Clinton H. Krebs is a fourth-generation sheep producer. Along with his brother, father and their
respective families, Clint has a range operation running five bands of
ewes and lambs in two different locations, one for summer and the
other for winter, in Oregon. He has raised sheep his entire life, taking
a break only to get his bachelor's degree in agriculture economics
from Oregon State University. Clint currently serves as a director for
the National Lamb Feeders Association and serves on the Executive
Board of Directors of the American Sheep Industry Association. He
formerly served as the past president of the Oregon Sheep Growers
Association and the past chairman of the Oregon Sheep Commission.
He also participated on Oregon’s Wolf Advisory Committee
and offered a presentation about the Oregon Wolf Conservation and
Management Plan at the 2006 North American Wolf Conference.
Clint and his wife, Maureen, have two daughters, Jessica Langley and
Shelby, and a son, Cameron.
Mike Stevens is the co-founder and managing partner of Pioneer Mountain Group, a land management and conservation advisory firm. Since 2002, Mike has served as President of Lava Lake Land & Livestock, which conducts ranching, conservation, and land management activities on 900,000 acres of private, state and federal land in south-central Idaho. Lava Lake has been widely recognized for its range management practices, its success in working with the Bureau of Land Management and Forest Service, its conservation work and its direct meat marketing business. Mike previously worked with The Nature Conservancy in Idaho and New Hampshire, where he led the planning, implementation and financing of large scale conservation projects. Mike has received multiple awards for his land management and conservation work from the U.S. Forest Service, the Wildlife Society, the Switzer Foundation, and the Mellon Foundations. Mike received a B.A. in Biology from Middlebury College and a M.S. in Conservation Biology from the University of Vermont. Mike is an original member of the Livestock Producer Advisory Council and spoke at Defenders' North American Wolf Conference. He lives in Hailey, Idaho, with his wife Liz Mitchell, an environmental attorney.
