Coexisting with Carnivores This resource offers information about non-lethal tools and educational resources available to prevent conflicts with wild carnivores. Our goal is to guide communities, livestock owners, landowners, recreationists and resource professionals to identify working solutions to promote the ability of humans and wild carnivores to live in harmony. Species Restoration Projects The Endangered Species Act works to ensure the survival of our most critically endangered wildlife; however, many species in danger are not covered by it. We created Species Restoration Projects to identify species in need of attention. Emerging Wildlife Conservation Leaders An initiative that brings together twenty new, emerging leaders in the wildlife conservation field for capacity building and intense training in campaign development and skills, including implementation of a two-year group international wildlife issue campaign. Livestock Producer Advisory Council In 2004 we created the Livestock Producer Advisory Council, consisting of sheep and cattle ranchers, to forge better relations between the ranching and conservation communities. Participants on the council have helped us further our wildlife conservation goals while addressing the concerns of livestock producers. Proactive Carnivore Conservation Fund Through this fund, we help ranchers, landowners and communities live successfully and responsibly with carnivores. Our success at expanding the range of predators will be directly proportional to our success at reducing conflict between predators and humans. Wolf Compensation Trust The Defenders of Wildlife Wolf Compensation Trust is a model of the incentives that might be offered to private landholders for supporting threatened and endangered species. The trust is used to compensate ranchers in the U.S. northern Rockies and Southwest US for all verified livestock losses to wolves Grizzly Compensation Trust In 1997, we established this trust to offer compensation as a way to help reduce grizzly bear-related economic losses for individual ranchers and farmers while promoting grizzly bear conservation. Endangered Species Reward Fund We are committed to working with law enforcement agencies to stop the illegal killing of imperiled species. This incentive helps to uncover information in incidents involving a variety of species, including bears, lynx, sea otters and wolves. |
