Wolves and Lawsuits

Attempts to remove and reduce Endangered Species Act protections for wolves have occurred for years. In response, Defenders has successfully challenged these plans in the courts.

Defenders will celebrate the day when wolf populations in the United States are recovered to the point where they no longer need federal protections. However, the decision to remove those protections must be rooted in science, not politics. Further, the states must ensure their management plans promote long term wolf recovery when they take over the management of these magnificent animals.
