Planning for Wolves in Washington

In late 2006, Washington decided to develop its own state wolf plan through an advisory committee process similar to Oregon’s (read press release). Two of the individuals appointed to that committee were nominated by Defenders.

Defenders is closely following Washington’s wolf planning process. In 2007, we collaborated with the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife and the FWS to sponsor a highly successful wolf recovery workshop. At the workshop, nearly 80 state and federal agency personnel were trained by former and current federal wolf staff to investigate livestock depredations and to implement nonlethal, proactive methods for reducing wolf and grizzly bear conflicts with livestock.
