General things you can do for gopher tortoises
- Support protection of Florida native habitats.
- Don’t remove tortoises from the wild.
- Watch out for turtles in the road when you are driving.
- Be careful - don’t crush tortoise burrows by off road biking and ATV riding.
- Report wildlife violations to the Florida Wildlife Commission.
- Spread the word about the unique gopher tortoise and its role as a keystone species in its native habitat where many other animals and plants depend on its burrows and foraging habits.
