In February 2009, Defenders and three other conservation groups submitted a petition to list fishers in the Northern Rocky Mountains under the Endangered Species Act.

In April 2010, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service responded to the petition with the initial determination that ESA protections “may be warranted” for fishers in the northern Rockies.  This triggered a more detailed status review by the agency, which we expect to be completed in Spring 2011.

In June 2010,  Defenders of Wildlife submitted comments in response to the FWS detailed status review of fishers in the northern Rocky Mountains.
