Cook Inlet Beluga Whales: In the Field

Defenders is part of a coalition of local and national conservation groups, concerned citizens and scientists working towards an “endangered” listing for the Cook Inlet Beluga.

The coalition’s activities focus on four areas:

  • increasing public awareness and action through a dedicated website, and links to other websites;
  • countering special interest efforts to prevent the beluga whale being listed;
  • reviewing existing scientific data to try to determine data gaps that will need additional research;
  • preparing a campaign with next steps following the announcement in April to list or not to list the Cook Inlet beluga whale.
