Economic Benefits Provided by Five Conservation Opportunity Areas
This series of five in-depth case studies by Defenders’ Conservation Economics program features a sample of priority conservation areas identified in states Wildlife Action Plans. Using a range of economic valuation approaches, the case studies develop estimates of the economic values generated by each area. The analysis shows that the low estimate of the benefits generated by all five areas together ranges from 280-570 million dollars per year.
The five individual case studies are accompanied by an overview report that summarizes the results of the studies and a separate white paper that provides more background on economic methodologies used in natural resources valuation.
