SAFETEA-LU Planning: Illustrative Examples
Examples of current practice from metropolitan planning organizations (MPOs) and state departments of transportation (DOTs) to illustrate a range of approaches for addressing several selected planning provisions. Unfortunately, the only examples they have for integrating conservation and transportation planning are from areas that were forced to do so because of endangered species.

GAO Study: Transportation Planning
State and metropolitan planning agencies report using varied methods to consider ecosystem conservation. Of the 36 transportation planning agencies that GAO contacted, 31 considered ecosystem conservation in transportation planning, using a variety of methods.

Executive Order 13274: Environmental Stewardship and Transportation Infrastructure Project Reviews
Issued by President Bush in 2002, this order streamlines the environmental review process for transportation projects.  Calls for the formation of an interagency Task Force to oversee these streamlining efforts, and to monitor the environmental review process of high-priority projects designated by the Secretary of Transportation.
