RIVERS AND HARBORS ACT OF 1899
(33 U.S.C. 401 et seq.)
The Act places federal investigations and improvements of rivers, harbors and other waterways under the jurisdiction of the Department of the Army, under the direction of the Secretary of the Army and under the supervision of the Chief of Engineers. It also requires that all investigations and improvements include due regard for wildlife conservation. The Act, as enacted in 1938, authorized over 50 individual water projects.
