Unchecked, unsustainable development is threatening U.S. Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management lands. Nearly 3,000 wildlife species and 10,000 plant species inhabit these 449 million acres, and they depend on these federal agencies to keep these lands healthy.
Defenders of Wildlife is advocating for balanced, science-based reforms to federal policies that will ensure wildlife is protected for the enjoyment of current and future generations. These are your lands, your wildlife, and your future -- help us protect them!
Your Lands, Your Wildlife, Your Story
Have you had a memorable encounter with wildlife in
America’s national forests or on Bureau of Land
Management lands?

We don't recommend trying this yourself.
Your Public Lands
The United States Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management (BLM) administer 449 million acres of land – 20% of the land area of the U.S. – and play an essential role in protecting the nation’s wildlife and plant species.
Your Wildlife
Our public lands are incredibly rich and diverse, providing key habitat for nearly 3,000 wildlife and 10,000 plant species, many of which are rare and/or imperiled.
“Capturing remarkable wildlife through the lens of my camera has been my life’s work and passion,” says Joel Sartore, “but if we don’t take a balanced approach to conservation and development, images of this wondrous planet may be all we’ll have left. Please join me in support of the Your Lands, Your Wildlife campaign.”
Your Adventure
Our public lands offer limitless recreational opportunities ranging
from hiking to hang gliding. Recreation on public lands also bolsters
local economies.
