Wolverines are one of the most elusive and awe-inspiring animals in North America. The largest land-dwelling member of the weasel family, these powerful carnivores survive in snowy alpine habitat by scavenging and storing food. Sadly, climate change is expected to melt away much of their snowy habitat.
There are only about 300 wolverines in the Lower 48, but there are steps that can be taken to help them sustain through a warming future! Join Defenders on April 9th at the Roxy Theater for an educational and entertaining night devoted to wolverines — RSVP today!
The evening will offer a rare glimpse into the life of this mysterious and imperiled animal, with a screening of the award-winning PBS Nature documentary Wolverine: Chasing the Phantom. Following the film, we'll have a short panel discussion on wolverine biology and the recent federal proposal to protect wolverines.
Extras: Free wolverine posters will be given away, and refreshments will be provided in the lobby alongside information about wolverines in the American West.
This event, presented by Defenders of Wildlife and the Montana Chapter of the Society for Conservation Biology, and Montana Backcountry Alliance, is FREE (with suggested donation of $3) and open to the public.
Defenders and our colleagues have been fighting for nearly two decades to give these creatures the protection they deserve. Citing threats posed to their habitat by climate change, now, finally, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has proposed to list wolverines as threatened under the Endangered Species Act! This recent development is cause for hope and a positive outlook for wolverines throughout the lower 48 states.
Bring your friends and family and join me at the Roxy Theater for a screening of the award-winning PBS NATURE documentary, Wolverine: Chasing the Phantom [2] — followed by a short panel discussion on wolverine biology and the recent federal proposal to protect wolverines.
I hope you can make it.
