Defenders in Action: Supporting sound wildlife policies for Alaska

Defenders of Wildlife has a long history of helping to shape federal, state and local policies so that sound scientific wildlife management programs and actions are in place to ensure the survival and recovery of vulnerable wildlife.

How We’re Helping

  • Defenders works with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to ensure wildlife and habitat management policies for Alaska’s National Wildlife Refuges remain strong.
  • Defenders monitors, evaluates and comments on activities that have the potential to impact wildlife populations on national wildlife refuges and national forests.
  • Defenders works with a wide variety of stakeholders who have an interest in wildlife management with a focus on reducing human-wildlife conflicts to build strong relationships that will help develop effective programs and policies moving forward.
  • Defenders is providing leadership and technical expertise in the forest planning effort for the Chugach National Forest.
