California Sea Otter Fund Extended for Five More Years
Defenders of Wildlife has worked tirelessly since 2006 to promote the California Sea Otter tax check-off box located on the state tax forms and, as of 2011, the fund has raised over 1.4 million dollars. In 2011, Defenders worked with California representative Bill Monning (D-Carmel) to introduce legislation that would renew the tax check-off program for another five years. Governor Jerry Brown signed the bill into law in September 2011.
