A Victory for Manatees

Thanks to Florida Governor Charlie Crist's leadership and the hard work of conservation groups including Defenders, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission voted in December 2007 to delay action on the proposal to downlist the manatee on the state’s imperiled species list and undertake a full review of the state’s listing criteria.
