John provides media and outreach support for wildlife conservation efforts in the northern Rockies region. He spends much of his time promoting the successful recovery of the gray wolf across the landscape by highlighting proactive measures that reduce livestock conflict. He works with Defenders' regional staff to ensure sustainable state wildlife management plans and increase tolerance for carnivores from the public at large.
Before joining Defenders, John worked on state climate policy in California and spent several years as a freelance writer and environmental journalist. He has a bachelor's degree in cognitive science and government from Dartmouth College and is pursuing (part-time) a master's degree in science writing at Johns Hopkins University.
