Scott Johnson is a senior organizer on Defenders’ national outreach team.  He works across the state of Arizona with diverse grassroots constituencies and the media to increase public support for wildlife conservation and to mobilize citizen advocates. Scott joined the Defenders staff in 1998 as part of GREEN – the Grass-Roots Environmental Effectiveness Network. As part of this work, he led an investigation into the Farm Bureau Federation that resulted in a CBS 60 Minutes expose. He then served for Defenders on U.S. Fish and Wildlife recovery teams for the endangered jaguar, ocelot and Mexican wolf.  Scott currently co-writes a bi-monthly electronic publication for Defenders called Rural UPdates! and recently completed Al Gore’s training to be a certified presenter for his movie, An Inconvenient Truth. 
 
Before joining Defenders, Scott was director of the Lanai Permaculture Institute in Hawaii.  He has also worked as a counselor, teacher, and professional musician.
 
After undergraduate studies at Arizona State University, Scott followed up with course work in Conservation Biology and Political Science at the University of Arizona.
