WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 14, 2010) – Congress gave final approval for a budget deal today that includes a non-budget provision to strip federal protections for wolves in the Northern Rockies. The provision, put forth by Sen. Jon Tester (D-MT) and Rep. Mike Simpson (R-ID), requires the Secretary of the Interior to reinstate the same 2009 delisting rule that was declared unlawful by a federal district court, while insulating the provision from any legal challenge.

BOISE, Idaho (April 9, 2010) – Congress and the Obama administration reached an agreement late last night on a Continuing Budget Resolution that includes a provision to strip federal protections for wolves in the Northern Rockies. The provision requires the Secretary of the Interior to reinstate the same 2009 delisting rule that was declared unlawful by a federal district court, while insulating the provision from any legal challenge. The budget resolution is expected to be approved by Congress early next week.

In a vote of 255-172, the U.S. House of Representatives today approved a bill offered by Representative Fred Upton which completely strips Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) of all ability to regulate greenhouse gases and safeguard the nation from the impacts of climate change. The vote comes on the heels of a Senate decision to strike down four similar provisions only yesterday.
