Update: Virginia's Shores Are Still Safe

Printer-friendly version
(4/10/2006) - Governor Kaine has decided to amend the bill and remove any language that deals with lifting the off-shore drilling moratorium.  This is a victory for thousands of concerned citizens who have voiced their opposition to allowing the oil and gas industry to line the Virginia shores with drilling rigs.  Governor Kaine has added language, though, that supports a federally-funded off-shore resource survey, which could keep the door open for this debate to resurface. But for now Virginia’s rich coast remains a haven for wildlife, tourists, and culture.
