Dia de los Lobos - Tucson Celebrates the 10th Anniversary of the Mexican Wolf
The Mexican wolf, or el Lobo, has returned to its ancestral home in the Southwest and it’s time to celebrate! March 29th marks the ten-year anniversary of the snowy day in the White Mountains’ Apache National Forest when eleven captive-bred Mexican wolves, the most endangered wolves in the world, which had been missing in the Southwest for 50 years, stepped into the wild and began their comeback. Come join us for this landmark 10-year anniversary celebration featuring gala entertainment for all ages. Arizona conservation groups are hosting a free festival – Dia de los Lobos – on March 29th from 3 – 7 PM. To help el Lobo celebrate we have a host of exciting events for kids and adults including:
- Live music! We will feature Tucson’s premier bluegrass band - the fun, talented and award-winning Titan Valley Warheads playing from 3 – 6 PM.
- Apache Crown Dancers – in training, from the White Mountain Apache Tribe, who are leaders in Mexican wolf recovery. (TBD)
- Entertainment by Flam Chen - Blending fire and movement in pyrotechnics, Flam Chen will be our feature finale with their performance “Radiance”- a special show about the relationship between man, nature, earth and stars.
- Madonnari Chalk Interactive Art Exhibit (TBD)
- Interpretive presentation by Kathie Schroeder and Sueño the Harris' Hawk – the “Wolves of the Sky”.
- Activities for the kids including storytelling, mask-making with staff of the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum and the Bear Essential News Prize Wheel.
- Invited Guest Speakers - Councilmember Regina Romero, Congressman Raul Grijalva and Supervisor Richard Elias.
- Food, raffle, drinks and FUN!
