Rep. Sam Farr's Sea Otter Legislation
Statement of Caroline Kennedy, Director of Special Projects, Defenders of Wildlife
WASHINGTON , DC -- "Defenders of Wildlife is very grateful to Representative Sam Farr for his leadership in securing research funding that will undoubtedly prove critical to the recovery of the troubled southern sea otter population. His bill also provides for the creation of the Sea Otter Recovery Implementation Team, which will allow all stakeholders to play a role in conserving this magnificent species. Recovery efforts are all the more essential as recently released counts of the southern sea otter population found 2,122 otters, 80 fewer than the previous year. But with the help of leaders like Rep. Farr, we hope to turn this decline around and continue the southern sea otter’s march toward recovery."
