Defenders in Action: Defenders Fights for Responsible Energy Bill

Defenders of Wildlife is a leading member of a coalition of environmental organizations working to ensure that the United States has an energy plan that reflects responsible, sustainable and clean power for the future. The coalition has been actively engaged in working with key lawmakers and in launching an aggressive and comprehensive campaign, which includes television and radio ads in more than 10 states across the country.

Defenders also participated in a collaborative "lobby week" in Washington, D.C., where activists from key states met with their congressional representatives on this important issue.

Defenders and the coalition believe that a responsible energy plan for the 21st century is one that maximizes efficiency in cars, trucks, homes and businesses, invests in renewable energy such as wind and solar power, and does not plunder our special public lands. Some members of Congress seek to drill for oil in the pristine Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska. But any new oil from the Arctic would not reach market for a decade, yet the harm to wildlife and the refuge would be irreparable and irrevocable.
