The staff in the Philadelphia office of Defenders of Wildlife works to engage activists in Pennsylvania and New Jersey to defend imperiled wildlife and habitat. This office organizes Defenders members and supporters, as well as reaches out to new constituencies to help advance wildlife issues of national and regional importance, such as saving the Endangered Species Act and stopping global warming.
The Philadelphia office works with the public, conservation groups, government agencies, scientists, educators, elected officials and Defenders members to lobby for protection of regional wildlife and habitat.
Key projects:
Building a strong constituency for wildlife: Defenders builds local support for critical national, state and local wildlife and conservation issues. By reaching out to Defenders members and supporters, and reaching out to new individuals, groups and businesses, this office is working to develop educated, trained, and active constituencies who support and are involved with Defenders mission and work. Through community activism, education, media outreach and working with elected officials, the Philadelphia office works to provide a strong and influential voice for supporting wildlife protections.
Key Accomplishments:
- Through presentations, meet-ups, citizen advocacy trainings and other events and activities, we have built a network of citizen activists who communicate with their elected officials, work with their local media and organize in their communities to support and strengthen Defenders work in the state (2006-present).
