Northern Rockies Representative
Areas of Expertise: Large carnivore recovery, building partnerships with Indian Tribes, techniques for reducing bear/human conflicts.
Minette Glaser oversees Defenders’ programs for grizzly bear conservation in Montana, Idaho, Wyoming and Washington. She has also collaborated with private landowners, and state, tribal and federal agencies on more than 70 projects to prevent initial bear-human conflicts. Minette was also involved in efforts to develop solutions to protect Yellowstone’s buffalo, and to better understand and protect rare forest carnivores such as the lynx and wolverine. She has helped restore swift fox to the Blackfeet Indian Reservation, returned buffalo to the Indian people of Fort Peck after an absence of 130 years and bolstered black-footed ferret and prairie dog conservation efforts.
Before joining Defenders of Wildlife in 1994, Minette served as Grassroots Coordinator for the Endangered Species Coalition. She has also worked on wolf recovery and protection of the Arctic Refuge for the National Audubon Society and sea turtle conservation at the Center for Marine Conservation (now the Ocean Conservancy). She began her career reintroducing endangered peregrine falcons in Idaho and monitoring coyote populations in Yellowstone National Park.
Minette Glaser holds a M.S. in Environmental Studies from the University of Montana and a B.A. from Connecticut College. Her program to prevent grizzly bear conflicts earned awards form the Interagency Grizzly Bear Committee, the Yellowstone Ecosystem Subcommittee and the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
