Joe Vickless
Communications Associate
Media relations contact for: Mexican wolf, border, federal lands, transportation, water issues, and all state issues for AZ, CA, NM, NV, OR, TX, and WA
Joe is based in Defenders’ headquarters in Washington, D.C., and is responsible for developing communications campaigns around the work Defenders is accomplishing in all areas, including field outreach, legal, scientific and legislative. Since joining Defenders in February 2006, Joe has worked on media and public outreach campaigns for numerous notable projects, including an annual campaign to raise money for sea otter conservation from donations given by Californians on their state income tax returns, and Defenders’ legal efforts to halt construction of a controversial border-wall segment in the San Pedro Riparian National Conservation Area.
Before joining Defenders, Joe interned in the media department at The Wilderness Society, a national conservation organization devoted to protecting America’s remaining wilderness. Prior to his work in communications for the conservation community, Joe taught English at McKeesport High School in Pittsburgh, PA and at private schools in Greece.
Joe holds a B.A. from Allegheny College in English.
