Jen Clanahan Colorado Organizer


Areas of Expertise: conservation issues, media, wildlife habitat and corridors, legislation, advocacy and outreach

Jen is the Colorado Organizer on Defenders' national outreach team. She works across the state with diverse constituencies and the media to increase public support for wildlife conservation and positively affect legislation.

Before starting with Defenders in January of 2008, Jen worked for both federal and local legislative bodies. She served as the Deputy Press Secretary for U.S. Senator Ken Salazar (D-CO), and worked with Denver City Councilman at-Large Doug Linkhart where she successfully worked to ease zoning restrictions on renewable energy. She was also the Regional Director for Wildlands Project in the Rocky Mountain Region protecting interconnected wild areas on a landscape-scale, providing long-term suitable habitat for large carnivores and a high level of native ecological diversity. Prior to that she was a Program Officer for the Wilburforce Foundation which funds efforts to protect wildlife habitat throughout Western U.S. and Canada, and worked for the Progressive Animal Welfare Society. She has served on the boards of environmental organizations, the steering committee for the Southern Rockies Wolf Restoration Project and the Greening Committee for the City of Denver Host Committee.

Jen received her B.A. from University of Colorado and has done coursework toward her Masters of Public Administration at University of Colorado, Denver.
