D'Anne Albers California Desert Associate

Areas of Expertise: California conservation issues, Endangered Species Act, grassroots networking

D’Anne is responsible for developing and implementing work plans for the California Desert Program. She serves as liaison to other organizations, federal, state and local agencies, elected officials and their staff, the media and the general public. She also represents Defenders on the Desert Tortoise Information and Education Working Group through the Desert Managers Group, and is developing a locally-based outreach program aimed at reducing human attractions for ravens in the desert. D’Anne will be communicating the value of desert conservation and participate in local and regional conservation planning and implementation efforts in the West Mojave desert. D'Anne was a co-author of the 2008 report, 'Economic Oasis: Revealing the True Value of the Mojave Desert'.

Before joining Defenders of Wildlife, D’Anne was executive director of Friends of the Sea Otter in Monterey California. She was part of the Marine Life Protection Act’s California Task force. She was a member of the Monterey Bay National Marine sanctuary’s Conservation Working Group and Coastal Chair of the Ventana Chapter of the Sierra Club. She has considerable experience working with national, state and local officials on conservation issues.

D’Anne Albers attended the University of Tulsa with a major in Humanities and Monterey Peninsula College with a degree in Environmental Science. She is also trained for the California State Oil Spill Rescue Team.
