Becky Beard
Habitat and Highways Campaign Coordinator
Areas of Expertise: wildlife-transportation research, wildlife-vehicle collisions and prevention, conservation planning, habitat connectivity analyses
Becky works on the Habitat and Highways Campaign to help reduce the impact of roads and highways on wildlife and habitat through cooperation with federal and state agencies and the implementation of policy which incorporates wildlife concerns. She works with non-profit organizations around North America via the TransWild Alliance, towards the prevention of wildlife-vehicle collisions and the protection of wildlife habitat connectivity.
Prior to joining Defenders, Becky worked with the City of Austin GIS Services and the Wildlife Permits Program at the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department. She also participated on a year-long land use study of indigenous communities in the Ecuadorian Amazon. She started her career in environmental conservation at the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality after interning with the USGS Texas Water Science Center.
Becky completed her M.A. in Geography at Arizona State University, and holds a B.S. in Geography from Texas State University.
